Wine & Dine with Gary Barlow as He Explores SA’s Finest Vineyards on BBC Lifestyle

Acclaimed musician and wine entrepreneur Gary Barlow takes audiences on a wine-derful journey through the breathtaking landscapes and rich culture of South Africa in his brand-new series, Gary Barlow’s Wine Tour: South Africa.

Premiering on Wednesday, 29 January 2025, at 20:00 on BBC Lifestyle (DStv Channel 174), the five-episode series offers a riveting experience into South Africa’s renowned wine regions, including the lush vineyards of Stellenbosch, the scenic valleys of Franschhoek, and the emerging estates of Swartland.

Each episode combines stunning visuals with engaging storytelling as Gary samples exceptional wines such as a bold Shiraz, crisp Sauvignon Blanc, and the ever-elegant Pinotage, delving into the unique terroirs and winemaking traditions that define South Africa’s viticultural legacy.

Gary, a chart-topping musician who swapped out sold-out stadiums for vineyards, combined his love for travel, culture, and good company to create this unique exploration of South Africa’s finest vineyards. Speaking about the inspiration for the show, he shared, “I suggested South Africa because I had recently been there and thought, ‘If there’s a place to start that has the ‘wow’ factor, South Africa is it.’ It just looks incredible and is such an interesting place.”

Throughout the series, Gary embarks on adventures alongside a host of friends, including Ben Shephard, Mica Paris, Jane McDonald, and Michaela Strachan, discovering South Africa’s wine country’s vibrant diversity and rich heritage. From engaging with local communities to exploring lush estates packed with greenery and grapes, the show offers a fresh and inviting perspective on winemaking.

Gary, who continues to enjoy a multi-faceted career – from musician to avid traveller and now wine connoisseur, says the experience has been unforgettable. “South Africa has the best sunsets and star-filled skies, and it’s a place I’ll always remember. The people were warm and welcoming, and I’d go back in a heartbeat!”

Audiences can also expect a glimpse into the lighter side of Gary’s journey, including his adventures with friends, unexpected surprises, and moments of discovery that highlight the joy of travelling and connecting with others.

Gary Barlow’s passion for music and wine remains at the heart of his ventures, and this series is a testament to his commitment to exploring new creative avenues. “I love everything I do and always try to push myself into new areas. This show is a labour of love, and I hope people enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it,” he concludes.

Tune in to Gary Barlow’s Wine Tour: South Africa every Wednesday from 29 January 2025 to 26 February 2025, exclusive to BBC Lifestyle (DStv Channel 174).
