Over 3 000 runners turned Rosebank pink and raised R50 000 for CANSA

Rosebank Mall’s 5KM Pink Run, which took place on 1 November 2025, drew more than 3 000 participants, raising R50 000 for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). The annual charity event transformed Bath Avenue into a sea of pink as runners, walkers and supporters that came together for a cause that touches countless South African families.

From families with young children to seasoned athletes, the turnout demonstrated the community’s commitment to supporting cancer research, prevention and patient care. Participants ran, walked and jogged in honour of loved ones currently battling cancer, those who have overcome it, and in memory of those lost to the disease.

“Seeing over 3 000 people come together on a Saturday morning shows the incredible heart of our community,” said Angelisa Gengan, Marketing Manager of Rosebank Mall. “Every person who participated made a tangible difference to CANSA’s vital work. The energy and solidarity on display reminded us why this event matters so much to so many people.”

Community support makes it happen

Rosebank Mall extended special thanks to the Run Zone Team, whose dedication and expertise proved invaluable in organising and executing the event. Their behind-the-scenes work ensured participants enjoyed a smooth, well-managed experience from registration through to the finish line.

The event also benefited from generous sponsor support. Garmin contributed two Garmin Forerunner 265s Light Pink watches for a social media giveaway competition, giving ticket purchasers the chance to win premium fitness technology. Pick n Pay supported participants by providing refreshments, ensuring runners stayed hydrated throughout the morning.

“The response from our participants, sponsors and the Run Zone Team made this event truly special,” added Gengan. “It takes an entire community working together to create something meaningful, and that’s exactly what happened on 1 November.”

Making every step count

The Pink Run continues to serve as a powerful reminder that community action can drive real change. By showing up, participating and spreading awareness, the 3 000 attendees contributed to a larger movement working towards better outcomes for cancer patients across South Africa.

The funds raised will help CANSA continue providing essential services to those affected by cancer whilst advancing research that could save lives in the future. For many participants, the event offered a meaningful way to turn personal experiences with cancer into positive action.

“We thank every single participant who made the 2025 Pink Run such a success,” said Gengan. “This event reinforces our commitment to community engagement and supporting causes that truly matter to the people of Johannesburg.”
