Stimela Marks 45 Years of Musical Legacy with New Album Through the Storm

South African music legends Stimela are back, celebrating 45 years of shaping the country’s musical landscape with the release of their powerful new album, Through the Storm.

A band whose music has transcended generations – from the elders who first embraced their iconic Slow Train sound to the youngest audiences discovering their melodies today – Stimela remains one of the nation’s most enduring and beloved musical institutions.

The lead single, More Than Just a Man, is a heartfelt tribute to the men who hold families together, honoring the roles of son, father, and husband with Stimela’s signature soulful sound. Lead vocalist Sam Ndlovu reflects: “This song celebrates men quietly shaping our communities – the fathers and sons who are the unsung pillars of our lives. It’s a story that resonates across every home.”

The album is a rich tapestry of stories and sounds, showcasing Stimela’s unmatched ability to blend depth with artistry. Ixilongo is a tender love ballad featuring acclaimed South African vocalist Unathi Nkayi. Juju (Love Potion/Charm)brings humor and relatability in true Stimela style, while Pamberi ne Chimurenga revisits the political struggles and triumphs of pre- and post-1994 South Africa. When Does It Stop speaks to resilience in the face of loss, and Africa ni Moja is a stirring call for continental unity. Closing the circle, Guitars of Chimurenga highlights the band’s masterful instrumentation and the unmistakable energy of their live sound.

Guitarist Ntokozo Zungu captures the essence of the project: “Stimela’s music is a living story. Every generation has found something to hold on to – a reflection of life, love, and hope. This album is our way of honoring the past while passing the torch to the future.”

The album artwork – a steam train breaking through smoke and lightning – symbolizes the band’s relentless spirit and resilience. It represents a legacy that refuses to fade, reminding listeners that Stimela is more than music: it is history, culture, and a movement that continues to inspire.

With a new generation of musicians now carrying the torch, Stimela’s journey is far from over. Through the Storm is both a celebration of their remarkable past and a promise of the music still to come.

More Than Just a Man is not just a single – it is a declaration that Stimela remains the heartbeat of South African music, shaping the soundtrack of generations while charting a bold path forward.
