HONOR Turns Menlyn Mall Into an Unbreakable Interactive Experience With Mzansi Stars

Menlyn Mall was the scene of a full-on HONOR takeover as one of Mzansis favourite technology brands brought its Unbreakable energy to the heart of Pretoria with a live, interactive activation designed to captivate and amaze with well-known faces, music, Youth radio station, YFM and music podcast, Yano Lyrics were also in the mix.

Built around the HONOR X9d 5G and its durability-first reputation, the activation invited Menlyn shoppers to do more than browse. Those who chose to answer MC, Khanyi Mars questions on HONOR, the celebs, the mall along with other questions got the chance to play the super-exciting HONOR X9d Games. Getting the 24 answers right earned entry to face off in a series of unbreakable-style challenges that put toughness in the spotlight – including must-see water resistance and heat testing challenges.

The Unbreakable lineup brought a familiar mix of personality, pop-culture and pure Mzansi fun. This amazing experience included Naledi Aphiwe, Ashley Ogle, Thatohatsi, DJ Tira, Lindough, Dedrick, Daliwonga, Xduppy, Ronwen Williams and Khanyi Mars. The Glow UP show on YFM with Karen Mthethwa broadcasted live from the centre of the action, as listeners stood a chance to win prizes through call-ins and on-air moments, taking the vibe far beyond the mall and into cars, offices and homes, with urban podcast Yano Lyrics also broadcasting at the venue.

What took place

Rather than one quick appearance, the takeover ran in two main waves so more shoppers could catch it. Each round followed a simple flow: Khanyi Mars welcomed and warmed-up, did a quick intro to the HONOR X9d 5G features, after that what followed were three headline crowd challenges, including Crushing the Walnuts, Crushing the Rusks, and the water-themed Fish Tank Challenge. With the festivities concluding with the winners announcement and the handing out of prizes (of up to the value of R10 000 for both winners).

Last years Menlyn takeover proved just how well this format is loved, with celebrity counter takeovers, surprise moments and giveaways creating a festival feel inside the mall. Reflecting on the brands approach to these activations, Fred Zhou, HONOR South Africa CEO, said: As always, we want to connect with Mzansi in new ways, not just by speaking to them, but by meeting them where they are. The Menlyn Mall takeover is our way of celebrating the success of the Unbreakable Series, embracing the energy of Mzansi, and showing that HONOR is truly a part of their everyday lives.

With this years entertainment lineup, live radio energy and unbreakable challenges, the HONOR takeover was an unmissable highlight in Menlyn once again.
