G-Star RAW x Bruno Baietto: Denim’s Blueprint Reimagined

G-STAR launched its innovative art series, The Art of Raw. This initiative offers a platform for emerging creatives to explore the limitless potential of denim by transforming denim waste into unique art and design pieces. After collaborating with various international talents, the brand has now teamed up with Bruno Baietto. The Uruguayan Brazilian artist has crafted an aluminum table, and a room divider made of porcelain tiles, imprinting jeans into the pieces.
Starting from scratch
Coming from a family of bakers, Baietto learned the value of craftsmanship from an early age. Just as a baker skillfully combines ingredients to create a product, an artist master’s the materials to bring their vision to life. Rooted in this philosophy, Baietto created Residual Blueprints. By using denim remnants as a mold for his art pieces, he pays homage to the industrial processes, traces of labor and wear, imprinting the signature elements of jeans.

Baietto approaches his work conceptually, viewing design as a source for inspiration and critique. Unconcerned with functionality, he focuses on representation. An aluminum table with an uneven top and a room divider too heavy to move, challenge conventional ideas of practicality and invite the audience to reconsider the meaning behind everyday objects.
“The idea of producing collections and taking influence from patterns and industrial pasts inspired me, but also the recycling process and story behind the materials. There is a clear connection between G-STAR’s creative process and mine.” – Bruno Baietto
Critically complex artist
Baietto is an artist and designer with a background in industrial and contextual design. Seeking a multidisciplinary educational environment, he found himself in The Netherlands. The designer’s work is built on ideological frameworks. Drawing inspiration from theology, political philosophy, and Western history, he critically assesses complex themes like social inequality and inclusion through humor or satire. His work has been featured in international publications, ranging from South Africa to the US. Additionally, it is highlighted in the book The Auto Ethnographic Turn in Design, which explores design’s capacity to shape reality.
