Daniel Baron Appointed to the Board of Directors at SAMPRA

Multi-award-winning pop artist, songwriter and producer Daniel Baron has officially been appointed to the Board of Directors at the South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA). This milestone marks a new chapter in Baron’s illustrious career as he takes on a leadership role at the forefront of South Africa’s music rights landscape.

SAMPRA is the collecting society responsible for administering Needletime Rights on behalf of recording artists and record companies in South Africa. By ensuring fair royalty distribution for the public performance of recorded music, SAMPRA plays a vital role in protecting the rights and sustainability of the music industry.

With over a decade in the industry, Daniel Baron has become a household name and a driving force behind South African music. Best known for his smash hits, including the chart-topping ‘Children Of The Sun’, ‘Indestructible’, ‘Beautiful Noise’, ‘Acid Rain’, and his latest hit ‘Up At Night’, Daniel has achieved multiple number 1 hits across national charts, earned multiple SAMA nominations, produced award-winning records for emerging and established talent, and in 2022 was inducted into the Recording Academy (Grammys).

His career has seen him not only thrive as a performing artist but also as a prolific producer and songwriter, as the owner of The Hit Kitchen Studios, where he writes and produces for a vast array of local acts and corporate clients, helping shape the sound of a new generation of musicians.

Now, as a Board Director of SAMPRA, Daniel Baron brings his deep understanding of the challenges and aspirations of South African artists. Representing a large community of performers and creators, Baron is committed to using this platform to:

  • Support the rights of young emerging artists to ensure their voices are heard alongside established names.
  • Foster innovation and growth in the South African music industry by aligning with global best practices.
  • Stand with SAMPRA in their role as a guardian of artists’ livelihoods, ensuring performers are supported in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Speaking on his appointment, Baron said: “It’s an honour to serve on the Board of SAMPRA. I look forward to representing my fellow musicians and working together with SAMPRA to build a brighter future for our industry.”

As an established figure in the music industry, Baron explains that he is also committed to establishing himself as a direct and accessible line of communication for artists, providing them with valuable information, guidance, and support to help them navigate their careers.

“I aim to actively assist and educate emerging artists on how to organise their administrative affairs effectively, empowering them to focus on their creative pursuits while ensuring their royalties are properly managed.”

Baron’s appointment signals a fresh wave of leadership at SAMPRA, underlining the organisation’s commitment to empowering artists and protecting intellectual property in the ever-changing music economy.
