This weekend at Greyville Racecourse, under the theme “Marvels of Mzansi”, the 2025
Hollywoodbets Durban July reaffirmed its status as South Africa’s most prestigious social spectacle. Against the roar of the crowd and the flash of cameras, Sarah Langa claimed the coveted Best Dressed title in a bespoke golden silk Balmain set, a modern riff on the printed silk shirt with Chaînes pattern and coordinating trousers.

Drenched in unapologetic opulence, she paid homage to one of South Africa’s boldest (and often misunderstood) cultural movements: the Skhothane. Beyond their fearless self-expression and lavish flair, Skhothane were economists in their own right, turning flamboyant displays into powerful statements about status, value, and prosperity. Layered with multiple statement Balmain belts and finished with statement Balmain earrings, this look was her ode to their legacy. Because in Mzansi, luxury isn’t just worn… it’s performed.
